| 02/13/2007 DRB-Hicom Bhd has embarked on a programme to locally assemble Suzuki Swift 1.5L cars, with the fully assembled units scheduled to make their debut in April. On Feb 12, DRB-Hicom's wholly owned subsidiary Suzuki Malaysia Automobile Sdn Bhd launched the robotic welding lines to produce the completely-knocked-down (CKD) models. "A total of 3,000 units are targeted for assembly between April 2007 and March 31, 2008.†Speaking to reporters at the launch of its welding plant in Pekan by DRB-Hicom group managing director Datuk Mohd Khamil Jamil, Rahman said the company would likely announce the price of the CKD Suzuki Swift in April when the assembled units are launched. Rahman said Suzuki’s current share in the non-national passenger car market was 2% and hoped to increase it with competitive pricing. The Edge Daily |
